Skye Battles is an interdisciplinary artist and photographer with over twenty years of experience. Their work is deeply influenced by their upbringing, community, and personal experiences.
Raised by two remarkable lesbian mothers in Los Angeles, Skye grew up immersed in the energy of the entertainment industry and queer art scene, developing a deep appreciation for visual storytelling. As a child with dyslexia, Skye found solace and inspiration in art books, cartoons, and movies, mediums that allowed her to engage and communicate in a visual language.
Skye’s artistic journey began in fashion photography before expanding into set design and visual storytelling. By high school, they were working with brands like YRU, refining their skills in graphic design and photography, and interning with industry professionals at Variety Magazine, where they worked with icons like Queen Latifah and will.i.am.
At CCA, they designed a self-directed degree in photography, community arts, and set design, collaborating on projects for galleries, institutions, and brands. As a student, they balanced museum event roles alongside a thriving freelance photography career. Post grad, they joined Asian Art Museum events team, where they produced a gala for Takashi Murakami’s exhibition opening.
Now a photo editor at WIRED Magazine, Skye directs photographers for feature stories, curates imagery for print and digital, and ensures artistic and legal integrity in visual storytelling.
Across photography, installation and set design, cinematic storytelling, fashion styling and art direction, Skye’s work is driven by a desire to craft compelling narratives that challenge perceptions and shape artistic expression.
